Wow. I have a lot to write about.
An Event Apart in Chicago was very nice. Eric Meyer, Jeffrey Zeldman, and crew all put on a fantastic show. Well done.

So, this is what’s wrong with me.
Doc
I went to the doctor this morning, for my annual physical/checkup. Last year, around this time, was the first time [...]
I’m off to Chicago for An Event Apart, but I’ll be back Wednesday.
Morning Workout
I’ve been working on my pull-ups. I’ve always been able to do at least some moderate amount of chin-ups (supinated grip) without too much trouble, but pull-ups (pronated grip) have caused me serious pain. Not only could I not do them, they [...]

This morning, my normal training partner didn’t show. I had a nice tag team style workout planned, but that’s hard to do without a team. On the spur of the moment, I switched it up and tried, for the very first time, the Secret Service Snatch Test @ 16kg.
I went in to the challenge with [...]
This morning’s workout didn’t go as well as expected. I was really hoping to set a PR today in something. I didn’t.
I started with 5×5 Bent-over Barbell Rows @ 120#. I’m really focusing on using just my arms and upper back, really solid and still all the way through the rep, with a good 1-1.5 [...]
As the title suggests, this morning’s workout was a bit harder than I anticipated it would be. The one part that was actually easier than what I thought it would be was the Bent Presses. I originally planned to just do two sets of 5x w/ my 16kg KB. Once I got the movement smooth [...]
This morning, I hit two lifts that made me feel like I am finally getting ’strong’.
From a logical point of view, lifting a 200# bench and a 350# deadlift isn’t much different from a 195# bench or a 345# deadlift. Both are minor improvements over my previous PRs - 190# bench and 340# deadlift. And [...]
Saturday, took the kids to the local bagel place, had a bagel and coffee for breakfast. After that, I took our eldest - 3.5 yrs old - to the Magic House, while my wife took care of the younger one’s nap.
Saturday afternoon, my parents came over to watch the kids while wife and I went [...]

Very funny.
I had to laugh when I read this - mostly because it reminds me of conversations I have with my three year old.
Last night I finished reading Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies by Jared M. Diamond. It’s a ten year old book and I should have read it ten years ago. I finally got around to it, and it was good.
Mr. Diamond uses the book to describe how and why it is that [...]
I had a reasonable technique/ME workout this morning.I’ve been trying to teach myself to do full squat cleans lately. Mostly, I’ve been doing Drop Cleans with larger and larger weights, trying to get myself used to the “unbalanced” position of catching a weight low. It’s been reasonably successful. I’m sure my footwork is crap, but [...]
