Rows, FS, MP, RDL

This morning’s workout didn’t go as well as expected. I was really hoping to set a PR today in something. I didn’t.

I started with 5×5 Bent-over Barbell Rows @ 120#. I’m really focusing on using just my arms and upper back, really solid and still all the way through the rep, with a good 1-1.5 second hold at the top of each rep. If I’m going to do them, I might as well do them to get max benefit.

Then, worked up to a 1RM, then followed with 3×3 @ ~90% 1RM, in each Front Squat (210#/185#) and Military Press (120#/110#).

I closed with 5×5 Romanian Deadlifts @ 185#.

Down to 161.5# after my workout.

In other news, I’ve been reading through some old Dan John archives. It’s 126 pages of almost completely unorganized thoughts, over, what appears to be several years. There is some really brilliant stuff in there.

There’s a lot of focus on specific full-body work - Deadlift, Overhead Squat, Clean & Jerk, Clean & Press, Snatch. Also, there are some thoughts on diet (no surprise - lots of protein, few carbs, moderate amounts of good fats). Nothing surprising here, really. Just lots of reminders to stick to the basics.
