Charlotte Round II
As the headline suggests, we got Charlotte out again this morning. I finally weighed her. She comes in at a little over 50# - heavier than I originally anticipated. Knowing her weight is a mixed bag. On the one hand, I can say “She’s only 50#. Pick it up!” to myself as a [...]

This morning was chilly. I wore - for the first time since I began this set of Wednesday morning adventures - a long sleeve t-shirt. I should have worn a hat. I’d guess mid-40s F°.
There are only three good ways I know of to feel warm in such conditions.
Fire
Whiskey
Vigorous Exercise
We had neither fire-making equipment nor [...]
I don’t know if it’s the cooler weather now or what, but the gym seemed busy this morning. I’m glad I got in early and got my spot at the rack. Two bars, one set up on the rack for pressing, one on the floor for deadlifting. What more could a guy ask for? (Plenty [...]
This morning’s workout, as the title suggests, consisted of a little bit of everything.

a.k.a. The Sloshing Pillar of Pain
Inspired by Mark Twight’s 9 October workout (itself inspired by the mighty Dan John’s T-Nation article), I built myself a 10′ long Sloshing Pillar of Pain.
…and named her Charlotte.
I still haven’t put her on a scale yet, but she’s 10′ long, has a 4″ diameter and is holding approximately 4 [...]
…or so says Woody Allen.
For the most part, I think it’s true…but more on that in a moment. First, today’s workout.

7x front squats @ 120#
7x push presses @ 120#
7x pull ups @ bw
That’s it. Nothing exciting.
Just Showing Up

I learned a little something this morning.
Heavy squats and heavy deadlifts on the same day, in the same hour even, was, today, a bad idea. For most, that may seem like common sense. I suppose it does to me too, but I’ve never tried it…never proved it. Oh, I’ve done light one, heavy other before. [...]

My neighbor joined me again for yesterday’s workout. He hadn’t been around in a while - preferring, I suppose, a warm bed and his wife over the kettlebell and track.
As he is an old man and hadn’t been at it for a while, we took it slow.
