I got my start time for Saturday’s stair climb - 10:12:00am. I also have one more workout (Friday morning) to go before the event. I’m trying to decide what I’m going to do. Obviously, I don’t want to push anything too hard. Need to be fresh for the event.

I’m also trying to figure out what I’m going to eat. Carbs are important, I know. But how much? I don’t know.

I wrote sometime back that I thought this stair climb was going to be “35% aerobic / 65% gylcolytic system”. In light of recent training, I’d like to amend that. Actually, I think those numbers should be flipped. Heh.

I’m kinda rambling here. Just mostly thinking through the final preparations for Saturday morning. Any advice would be well appreciated.

Workout

This morning’s workout was Overhead Squats and Weighted Chin ups. I should mention at this point one of my birthday goals (late May) is to do 15 x OHS @ 155# (BW). I’m close.

Overhead Squats
10x @ 45#
5x @ 95#
5x @ 115#
3x @ 135#
3x @ 155#
1x @ 175# !
1x @ 185# !!

All were A2G and the 185# was very strong. My previous 1RM was 170#, so this 15# improvement felt awesome.

More Overhead Squats
10x @ 155#

The last few were shaky. I came forward a bit on my toes on #9 (lost my balance a bit) but otherwise the set was very strong. I think I’m well on my way to 15x.

Weighted Chins
5×5 @ BW+35#

    Thank you!

I’m not sure if I should treat this like the 200m it is (straight up!) or more like a 5k, as it is advertised.

Actually, I think neither is particularly useful. I think a 2k is probably a closer estimate…but that’s not a particularly popular race. Not a lot of 2k race advice out there.

The closest thing I can find is advice on a 2k erg test. Should take about the same amount of time (the stairs will probably take slightly more than a good 2k time), and the muscles used will be similar. Probably more posterior chain in the rowing, less on the stairs…but similar.

I’m not sure it matters. I’m going to push myself to some very painful place regardless how I prepare.
Maybe luck really IS all I need. =)

Bananas: they taste the same going up as coming down.
Seriously though, no need to eat anything super special. A bowl of oatmeal with fruit 1.5-2 hours before hand, and some diluted sports drink just before.
Good luck. send me a text and let me know how she goes.
