On the Eve of the Big Race

Tomorrow’s the big day.

Right now I’m eating about a cup each of tuna and cottage cheese (mixed together, not bad) and a cup of coffee (probably brewed at 8:30 this morning, not good). I’m not sure that’s ideal pre-race food, but it’s a lunch at my desk, reasonably filling, and that’s good enough for me.

Had a pretty light workout this morning.

Clean & Press
5x @ 45#
5x @ 95#
5x @ 115#
5x @ 135#
5x @ 115#
Power Snatch + Overhead Squat
3×5 @ 95#
TGU + Windmill
3×10 (5 ea. arm) @ 55# db

Took my time. Didn’t move too fast. Made sure all my movements were good and right - loose where they should be loose, tight where they should be tight. Nothing crazy today at all.

Tried to get Marathoner to loosen up his shoulders with the Snatch+OHS combo and the TGU+Windmill combo. No success. His hips are loosening up very nicely, but his shoulders are still tight.

JB, if you know any good shoulder magic, pass it this way. If anybody does, I’d think it’d be you. Really, if anybody knows any good shoulder mobility drills let me know.

For tonight I have lots of water, a reasonable dinner and go to bed early. Tomorrow morning it’ll be a bowl of oatmeal and a banana or two, probably a cup of coffee and some more water.

Wish me luck.

In Other News

I see in the paper today the trial for which I went through three days of voir dire has concluded and the jury rendered a verdict.

Now the penalty phase begins. Wow, I’m so absolutely glad I’m not locked up there right now.

    There’s a couple things:
Check out the “Neanderthal no more” series on t-nation.

Foam rolling the T. spine is good, if you have a foam roller.

grab a pvc pipe with a snatch grip (or wider) and slowly work the broomstick/pvc behind your back.

    once again, good luck.
