Out of Hibernation

It is a beautiful morning here. The temperature is somewhere in the mid-40s°F. Clear sky. Perfect day to come out from a winter slumber. Charlotte made her way to the field this morning, joined by two kettlebells, DrinkinBuddy/Neighbor, Marathoner, and me.

It was awesome.

The workout this morning wasn’t too vigorous, but just enough to get the blood pumping, lungs breathing, and muscles remembering what it’s like to be outside.

Warm Up
P1: 20x (10x ea. dir.) RTW @ 16kg KB
P2: 20x (10x ea. dir.) Figure 8 @ 16kg KB
P3: Hold Charlotte - various positions
Switch and Repeat until everyone’s done two rounds of each
Then
P1: 20x 2-hand Swing @ 16kg KB
P2: 2x (1x ea. arm) 2x Clean + 3x Front Squat + 2x Jerk + 3x Overhead Squat @ 16kg KB
P3: Rest
Switch and Repeat until everyone’s done five rounds of each
Carry/Sprint Relay
The rotation is simple. Carry Charlotte 100m + Sprint 400m
We set up on the track at opposite ends of a straight-away, so the whole thing could be done as a relay. It takes about as long to sprint the 400m as it does for the other two to carry Charlotte down and back. It all worked out pretty well.
Everybody does two 100m carries and two 400m sprints.

At about the 50m mark of my second carry, I decided to get fancy and put her overhead. Kinda muscled her up from the Zercher carry and then got about 4 or 5 steps. My hands weren’t wide enough, the water sloshed. Oh. Bad. All the weight went onto my right hand. The left side came off my left hand. Uh oh. It started to spin as it tipped. I shuffled and twisted a bit to stay mostly under her. Lowered her under a much control as possible to a Zercher position again…only to have all the water slosh left. Shift, shift shift!!

I’m proud to say she never touched the ground. Though, I’m told I did look like “a 747 in a strong cross-wind.” I regained my composure and balance and continued on with no more “extra efforts” attempted.

This was Marathoner’s first outdoor workout experience with us, and DrinkinBuddy/Neighbor’s first workout for most of the winter. All together a fantastic re-introduction to the Wednesday morning routines.

How Quaint

So, I’m reading the local paper and get to the Area Crime Reports and come across this:

Officers responded to the area of the Train Wreck Saloon, 9243 Manchester Road, on Feb. 27 for a report of a suspicious vehicle. The couple in the vehicle was discussing the birds and the bees. They were sent on their way.

Here it is. Scroll down to the Rock Hill section, then the 12th item. “…discussing the birds and the bees….” Nice.

That gave me a fine laugh. Thought you all might enjoy.

I can’t wait until Jesse makes his slosh pipe so that I can laugh at him toting it around.

Also, I like item #2 in the Rock Hill section. Wouldn’t “known crack user” have been more appropriate than “crack head”? Just saying’…

Ha! I didn’t even notice that one. Very funny. Makes me wonder about the writer. Probably some intern or rookie, mildly ticked he gets stuck with the Area Crime Reports. “Nobody reads this anyway…let’s see what I can get away with.” laughing all the way.

    Funny.
