I’m not sure what St. George’s Day is supposed to celebrate, but my desk calendar says it’s St. George’s Day today. Happy St. George’s Day, everyone. Let there be many dragons slain.
Marathoner and his wife (Mrs. Marathoner, perhaps?) have recently adopted a young girl born about two months premature. Their new daughter has been in the hospital these last several weeks trying to gain weight, learn to eat, growing strong lungs. Docs say she’s healthy and ready to see the world. Yesterday (Tuesday) she came home and last night spent her first night in her new home.
Congratulations Marathoner and Mrs. Marathoner. This was a long time coming. Anything we can do to help, let us know.
Wednesday Workout
Marathoner with his new baby, Neighbor/Favorite Drinkin’ Buddy is on family vacation to some beach somewhere, I expected to work out alone this morning. Apparently new little girl got hungry at 4:30AM. Marathoner got up, fed her, put her back to sleep…and thought, “what the hell?” and came out.
We did three rounds of max number snatches @ 16kg KB in 3 minutes. I work, you rest. I rest, you work. 1:1 work:rest ratio.

I completely fell apart my last set. Aerobically I was fine. My shoulders were fine. My grip was starting to give a bit, but strong enough to finish. It was my lower back and glutes. They were strong, going hard…then, in what seemed like the span of about three snatches, became completely overwhelmed with lactic acid. Once you reach that threshold, there’s really no slowing it down.
With no more power coming from my posterior chain, I tried to snatch a little more quad-centric, but that totally messed with my technique and my groove. From there it was just a matter of holding on at the top for a few seconds each time trying to provide a little rest each rep. Really slowed down my work.
After my third set I pulled my shirt up a bit and just laid my back on the cool pavement. Ahhh…relief.
When Marathoner finished his third set we jogged a 400m to get loose, then screwed around a bit with some bent presses and windmills. We passed the KB back and forth. Ended up doing several sets of 10x each side. Didn’t really keep count.
Finally, one 800m before going home. I crossed the line at 3:00:48. Marathoner came across at 3:06:xx. My splits were weird. Normally my second lap is faster than my first but today was the opposite. First lap was 1:26, which makes my second lap 1:34. Strange.

I’ve been getting TONS of comment spam into my inbox. I’ve instituted some prevention measures. Some are WordPress plugins. Some are home-grown.
Let’s see what works.
