It was raining this morning, so no outside Wednesday morning training here. I went to the gym. Today was about practicing my Olympic Lifting - mostly the snatch. I’ve had trouble with the snatch technique. I know I’m stronger than I can lift. I went through this same phase with the Clean last year. I focused on it for several months, swallowed my ego, started small with good technique and didn’t add weight until the bar was moving with speed and I was catching low. Eventually my Clean overtook my Power Clean. That was successful.
Today’s effort was similar.
- Power Snatch + Overhead Squat
- 1x + 10x @ 45#
- 1x + 10x @ 65#
- 1x + 10x @ 95#
- 1x + 10x @ 115#
- Snatch (w/ Squat catch)
- 3×10 @ 45#
- 3×10 @ 55#
- 3×10 @ 65#
- 3×10 @ 75#
- 3×10 @ 85#
- 3×10 @ 95#
By this time I was getting tired. The 95# was going up fine, and I’m way stronger than that, but my technique was starting to slip a bit. I was coming up on my toes a little too often. I was not getting a good triple extension. Basically, all the reps were having some cumulative effects and I was slipping a bit. That’s OK. It was a good, productive workout.
- Clean & Press
- 5x @ 115#
- 5x @ 135#
- 3x
- 5x Cleans @ 155#
- 5x Weighted Dips @ BW+60#
- 3x
- 6x Weighted Chin Ups @ BW+25#
Then I went upstairs and did something I haven’t done in a long time. I got on a treadmill. ~shock~ I ran 10 minutes at a 10min/mile pace at 10% incline. Not bad. It helped work out some of the tightness that was still left over from Monday’s Breathing Squats.
This weekend I will be heading out of town. I will be gone Friday early through Monday late. I’ll be taking my kettlebell with me and I’ll see if I can find some time to improvise something while I’m there. Either way, you all should hear from me again sometime Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.

Oh thank God! When I saw the title of this post I thought you were going to say you blew out your O-Ring doing some power cleans.
