High Volume Deadlifts

I saw this video today. It’s hilarious. Christian and Dennis, two regular athletes, compete in five Olympic events and compare their performance to actual Olympians. You’ll love it.

My glutes and hammies were still sore and tight from Wednesday’s workout. I warmed up slow and easy.

2 Workouts, 3 Points

I’d like to say a huge, gigantic congratulations to MountainBiker. He finished 4th in a local crit last night and earned his first three points! In his own words:
I gave a huge lead out to the top three dudes (i.e. I took off on them with half a lap left and forced them to chase [...]

Nintendo Surgeon

I’ve been thinking and reading a lot lately about displaying complex data - especially on a computer screen - for different age groups. Baby Boomers use their computers very differently than GenX’ers, who use them very differently than GenY/NetGen. This holds true even for people who have the exact same job. It’s an interesting topic [...]

First Time Behind a Sled

MountainBiker, posted about here a little bit in the past, has been skipping our Wednesday morning training sessions to race Tuesday night crits in a local park. He was proud to tell me this morning, last night he placed 7th of 30-35 racers. Well done MountainBiker. Keep up the good work. And, of course, I [...]

Good Morning

It was absolutely a good morning. The temperature at 5:00 this morning was somewhere around 55°F. The sky was clear, the stars shone brightly and there was the slightest of breezes. There was a part of me that seriously considered just sitting on my front porch for an hour and a half instead of lifting.
But [...]

Raw Eggs and a Singing PL Meet

Strike that, reverse it.
The USA Powerlifting Raw Nationals was a few weeks ago in STL. First, USA Powerlifting is very strict on drug testing. Second, a raw meet means extra equipment is limited. This - their first raw national meet - limited lifters to wrist wraps, neoprene knee sleeves and belts. Being a Powerlifting meet, [...]

9 Different Ways

Yesterday evening I watched the Colts v Redskins Pre-Season Game on the local NBC station. I was watching the game and having a conversation with my daughter at the same time, so I wasn’t totally listening to John Madden. He was talking about an old football player - perhaps one of the fellas just inducted [...]

Hank III

OK. Really, I’m not too terribly lonesome, but I was all alone this morning at the gym. I was the only one in the weightroom until about [...]
