Becoming Difficult

Sorry. I’m way behind. I have a week of catchin’ up to do, AND I’ve been tagged with a “What are your 5 year goals?” That’s going to have to wait until this weekend.

The treadmill was starting to get very difficult. The double increases every day got the intensity up, but quickly approached ridiculous. There was an older fella in there this morning. He finished his workout on the stair machine and was talking to the guy at the desk just as I was coming back in from the water fountain. I don’t think he knew I was behind him.

Stair-Climber:
~to Man At Desk~
Do you see him? ~points at Marathoner~ That’s crazy.
Man At Desk:
Yeah. There are two of them. I’ve been watching them all morning.
Stair-Climber:
What do you think they’re doing?
Man At Desk:
I don’t know.
Stair-Climber:
~shakes head~ They’re both crazy.

I just walked past and smiled.

Friday’s (13 Feb) Workout

4x: Treadmill
6:00 @ 5.5 mph & 10% incline
6:00 rest
3x: Concept II
1km @ 2:00/500m pace
6:00 rest

Monday’s Workout

3x: Treadmill
5:30 @ 6 mph & 11% incline
5:30 rest
1x: Concept II
2km @ 2:00/500m pace

Wednesday’s Workout

3x: Treadmill
6:00 @ 6 mph & 11% incline
6:00 rest
6x: Concept II
300m @ 1:50/500m pace
1:00 rest

I was falling apart on Wednesday. I made it through the first of the three rounds with the treadmill, but had to slow it down to 5mph about halfway through the next two. Also, only about 4 of the 6 rounds on the Concept II were actually at a 1:50 pace. The others were more like 2:00 or 2:05.

Today’s Workout

2x: Treadmill
7:30 @ 4mph & 15% incline
7:30 rest
3x: Concept II
1km @ 2:00/500m pace
6:00 Rest

Today on the treadmill felt awesome. My calves started burning a bit by the end, and I was winded, but I felt pretty solid.

The plan is to keep up those same parameters, increasing the speed by .3mph every workout for the next week and also the following Monday. Then, rest until race day.
