A Half Pound of Rubber Cement

Monday Morning

My allergies were terrible this past weekend. I know when this happens a sinus infection is likely right around the corner. For some reason I’m particularly susceptible to sinisitis, and when my allergies get bad and my head fills with snot, it seems that’s an invitation for the infection to set in.

On Monday morning I woke up with my head filled with snot. It felt as if someone had gone at all my facial orifices with a tube of caulk while I was sleeping. No good. I went to the gym anyway, hoping to sweat some of it out.

Warm Up
5x Power Snatch + 5x Overhead Squat @ 45#
5x Power Snatch + 5x Overhead Squat @ 70#

Front Squats
7×5 @ 220#

My entire warm up and the first two sets of squats were bad. Lots of intra-abdominal pressure caused lots of intra-cranial pressure - and I already had enough of that for 4 people. I got a pounding headache simply picking up the bar and actually squatting was torture.

…but sometime in the middle of my third set my head, almost instantly, cleared. From that moment I had about 45 minutes of respite from this vicious infection in my head.

3×6 Hanging Toes-to-Fingers

These are like knees-to-elbows, but more difficult. Keep your legs straight and - as the name suggests - touch your toes to your fingers. Hard.

Wednesday

Wednesday morning I woke still feeling pretty crappy.

…I racked the bar after my third set and began sneezing uncontrollably. I quickly grabbed a paper towel from a roll nearby and blew my nose. Out came about a half-pound of what looked and felt like rubber cement. It was totally gross and yet satisfying to have that crap out of my head. Squats to the rescue, again!

I’ve felt terrible and been on a weird schedule at work lately. I apologize my posts haven’t been more regular. Hopefully I’m on the mend and my schedule will become a bit more regular in the next few days.
