…makes me stronger. -Friedrich Nietzsche
Today (as last week) was supposed to be the first Wednesday Morning Workout of the year 2009. Today it was raining. Again. I went to the gym. This morning’s work was almost 100% pulling a barbell from the floor.
- Power Snatch & Overhead Squat
- 5x + 5x @ 45#
- 5x + 5x @ 65#
- 5x + 5x @ 85#
- 5x + 5x @ 95#
- 5x + 5x @ 115#
- Power Clean & Push Press
- 5x + 5x @ 135#
- 5x + 5x @ 155#
- 3x + 3x @ 175#
- 1x + 1x @ 185# !
A 185# Power Clean is a PR for me. It’s bizarre, because I haven’t Cleaned the bar since I hurt my back some 8 or 10 weeks ago. I guess the front squats and all the power snatch warm ups have done me some good. Well done, me.
- Deadlift
- 5x @ 205#
- 5x @ 225#
- 5x @ 245#
- 5x @ 265#
- 5x @ 275#
- 5x @ 295#
- 5x @ 315#
- 5x @ 335#
- 3x @ 355#
- 3x @ 365#
At that point my back was starting to feel pretty tired. I might have been able to force out one more set, but, for my first deadlifts in more than 8 weeks, I didn’t feel it necessary to push anything too hard.
- 10x KB C&J
- 5x Right Arm @ 16kg KB
- 5x Left Arm @ 16kg KB
- KB Swings
- 150x Swings @ 16kg KB
That was it.
Dad goes to Preschool
This morning my daughter’s preschool had an event - we walked to school and I went to class with her. We had a donut together and she showed me around her classroom, all the new things she’s done since the last time I was there.
Her teacher keeps a three-ring binder of representative samples of her work over the year - pictures she’s drawn, photographs of her doing the various activities of the year, etc. We sat down and looked at that together. She told me all about it. We sat on the floor and played Legos for a while. She built a pretty cool space ship (with a seat on the wing “for a good view”). Very cool.
I stuck around for about an hour, watching her in her element, doing her thing. It’s a rewarding experience watching my five year old daughter becoming independent, finding her way in the world. I don’t get to see enough of that.
